President’s Message

Augusto D. Bengzon l 06 March 2024 at Manila Polo Club

To our guest speaker, friends from media, guests, my fellow directors and officers of FINEX, our beloved members, good afternoon.

First and foremost, I would like to thank Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Governor, Hon. Eli M. Remolona, who we all know for a fact has an extremely busy schedule, for accommodating our request to be our keynote speaker at this afternoon’s general membership meeting. Judging by the turnout, and we have with us over 100 in attendance, many of our finance practitioners would like to see Gov. Eli in person, and hear from him his thoughts on monetary policy and inflation, as well as how the BSP is aligned in developing a sustainable and innovative capital market, ensuring financial stability, and promoting inclusive economic growth.

But before we hear from the Governor, just a few updates to our members:

It has only been two (2) weeks since our last GMM. On March 2, our Arts and Culture Committee hosted a tour of Binondo, entitled “A Wok-ing Tour of Binondo.” Members and guests enjoyed a variety of culinary delights selected by tour master, Ivan Dy.

Please look forward to our programs in March –

  • On March 19, our Financial Inclusion Committee will hold a forum entitled “Inclusion through Women and Water, at the New World Makati Hotel to celebrate the International Women’s Month and World Water Day. Special thanks to Water.org for sponsoring the event.
  • On March 20, the Good Governance Committee will hold another forum to celebrate the Women’s Month, entitled “Empowering Excellence: Women Leaders Shaping Governance for a Sustainable Future. Thanks to PHINMA Corp. for sponsoring this session.

Our next GMM on April 17, will feature Dr. Ron Mendoza, Senior Economist at the Ateneo Policy Center and Dr. Calla Wiemer, President of the American Committee on Asian Economic Studies to share their views on “The New Cold War.” Given that China is the Philippines’ largest trading partner and the United States its longest-standing ally, the country finds itself at the forefront of a new economic and geopolitical landscape. With Philippine businesses preparing for post-pandemic growth, top finance executives and corporate leaders need to better understand the “new era of strategic competition” between China and the United States, and its possible impact on the Philippine economy and regional stability.

We have started our campaign for this year’s year-round sponsorship. We hope that you and your companies will be one of them. The packages include:

  • Partner – P2.0million
  • Platinum – P1.0million
  • Diamond – P750,000

We will continue to keep you informed of our planned initiatives, particularly as we progress on our major thrusts for this year. We look forward to your continuing support and engagement.

Thank you.
