The FETP is a special training workshop, free of charge, open to college-level finance teachers, instructors and professors teaching finance or finance-related subjects in any CHED-accredited school in the Philippines.

It aims to expand, upgrade and update the knowledge and understanding of finance educators on selected finance topics deemed of particular current relevance to their enhanced appreciation of the finance function, to make them more effective teachers of finance to their college students. It further aims to provide a venue for interactive discussions on how to teach finance courses more effectively and to provide FINEX members the opportunity to contribute their individual expertise and to share their experience in enhancing the finance educators’ teaching abilities.

A two-day updated training course on “The Fundamentals of the Capital Market” was offered to the participants of the Finance Education Training Program conducted in Luzon and Visayas last year.

Ten (10) schools participated in the Ilo-ilo Leg held last July at PHINMA University of Ilo-ilo. Business Education Committee Chairman, DJ de Jesus led the resource speakers with fellow members, Rhoderick Santos and Santiago Dumlao, Jr. Mark Visda of PSE and Antonino Nakpil of Philippine Dealing System also joined as speakers.

In September 2023, the FETP was offered to Luzon faculty during the Pampanga Leg of the FETP. Held at Angeles University Foundation in Angeles City, Pampanga, the BEC catered the 60 registered participants from 13 different schools in Luzon. Eleanor Rivera from Philippine Dealing System joined the DJ de Jesus, Rhoderick Santos Santiago Dumlao, Jr. and Mark Visda as resource speakers.

OUTSTANDING FINANCE EDUCATOR (OFE) AWARD

Recognizing that financial education is a critical component of tertiary level studies, FINEX Foundation had launched the search for the most outstanding finance educators in the country in 2007.

FINEX initially collaborated with CITI and named the program in honor of the late esteemed Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Rafael B. Buenaventura – FINEX-CITI Rafael B. Buenaventura Outstanding Finance Educator Awards.

Mr.  Buenaventura was a key figure in the financial sector. He started his banking career in Citibank Manila and rose to become the CEO of Citibank in Indonesia, Malaysia, and the Philippines, as well as SVP-Treasurer for Asia-Pacific and SVP for Southern Europe. He also served as President of PCIBank prior to becoming BSP Governor.

CITI is the one of the world’s largest financial services company with offices in more than 100 countries. In the Philippines it provides a broad range of financial products and services to consumers, corporations, government and other financial institutions. Through Citi Foundation, it supports programs in the areas of Financial Education, Educating the Next Generation, Microfinance and Micro-entrepreneurship, and Environment.

The OFE search was launched on July 18, 2007 when a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) was signed by Sanjiv Vohra Country Officer of Citi Philippines and David L. Balangue, then Chairman of the FINEX Foundation.  Catherine Weir, former Country Officer of Citi Philippines and at the time of signing ASEAN Head of Citi, graced the occasion as guest speaker.  Among the attendees were senior officers of Citi Philippines, the OFE Board of Judges, officers of the Philippine Council of Deans & Educators in Business and the Philippine Association of Colleges & Schools of Business.

In 2011, Deloitte Philippines/ NavarroAmper&Co. agreed to become the FINEX Foundation partner for the program. It is now called Deloittte-FINEX Outstanding Finance Educator Awards.  The OFE Awards is part of Deloitte’s advocacy to support talent development by recognizing the outstanding professors who mold and influence the country’s future financial leaders, the firm hopes to empower these educators to continue their noble work of teaching, thereby deepening the country’s talent pool in the fields of business and finance.

The selection process starts with the acceptance of nominations from the various schools nationwide and from the finance educators training program (FETP) conducted, following stringent guidelines for qualifications.  The qualifications of the nominees are then scrutinized by the Screening Committee (comprised of BEC members and representatives from the sponsor) based on the documents submitted.  A maximum of 10 semi-finalists are selected, as much as possible, pro-rated to the regional awards, i.e, there are a maximum of 2 regional awards for NCR, and a maximum of 1 each for the rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.  The semi-finalists are interviewed by a Board of Judges (BOJ), who then chooses the regional awardees and from these, the national awardee.

All winners are awarded with medals and trophies, and a bonus cash prize to be used as much as possible to the awardees’ furtherance of his/her professional development and/or teaching proficiency.
